Chipping Event Kick-off Meeting:
We’ve previously announced the November 8th start of our community’s north-end chipping event. This is a continuation of a series of grants Paa-Ko has received from Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District to assist our residents and property owners in removing forest fuels from their property. The event presents a great time to clear out dead material and to trim those branches presenting a potential fire threat (ignition candles) to your homes. Over the past two years we have already offered this service to most of Paa-Ko landowners. For this event we are beginning at the intersection of Moccasin Trail and Paa-Ko Drive and moving northward to cover the remainder of our community. We will look for resident stacked streetside material on every street and cul-de-sac north of Moccasin, including our gated areas.
This will be our last community chipping event for a while, so take advantage of it. To address your questions, your Board has arranged a short one-hour presentation by Ricky Ready from our project partner Ciudad S&WCD. It will be in the Event Center on Thursday evening, October 23rd at 6PM. Another topic will be covered for property owners without the time or, perhaps, the skills and equipment to clear their own lots. In the last election, voters approved a mill levy for Ciudad’s program. For people wishing to contract directly with Ciudad for lot cleaning and fuel mitigation, there is now a program where the homeowner only pays 20% of the cost of the effort. It used to be 50% cost-shared. Ricky will talk to this as well. Our HOA chipping program costs lot owners absolutely nothing – you just have to drag your material to the street and we will chip it onto your property. If you have any questions about how to stack or what we will chip (no raked grass, pinecones, or small branches), please call Board member Jim Kelley @ 505-239-8552.
