Update on Paa-Ko Drive Resurfacing

We are wrapping up phase 2 of our road resurfacing project and would like to remind residents that the non-gated roads in Paa-Ko are officially deeded to Bernalillo County. The Board held extensive discussions with the road department to determine which community road segment was a priority for our development at this time. We elected to focus on completing the entire length of Paa-Ko Drive because of the rugged road section near the southern entrance and the danger it posed to runners, walkers, and cyclists. The road line-painting contract has not yet been awarded because there are only a few qualified local line-striping companies. Until the line painting is completed, please exercise additional caution while driving along the unlined pedestrian lane segment to ensure the safety of those using the side area of Paa-Ko Drive. We will continue to push the road department to complete the line painting as soon as possible.

We have no say in which materials are selected or how they are applied, although the department hears from the Board. In our phase 1 area, there has been minor spalling in three cul-de-sacs and moderate spalling (roughness and pavement looseness) on Concha Court. The county met with the Board twice, inspected all four cul-de-sacs, and, for now, decided not to repave the affected areas. The condition on Concha Court was noted, and the area is on the road inspectors’ watch list. We now begin the process of competing for funding for phase 3.

Mark your calendar for our Annual HOA Meeting on the evening of October 14^th. Our quarterly HOA sessions are working meetings for Board members, though residents are welcome to attend. The Annual Meeting is scheduled at a convenient time for working families and offers more opportunity to communicate with residents about topics important to you. The session will feature opening remarks by our County Commissioner, Eric Olivas, which you’ll want to hear. We will also discuss dead trees and the removal of forest fuels. We anticipate announcing a formalized tree-removal project, involving the Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District and fuel-removal grants from Ciudad and the East Mountain Wildfire Preparedness Association (EMWPA). We will also discuss a renewed November HOA chipping program.
